The sB for Strat takes one side of our dB humbucker and fits the coil into a traditional pickup route for a drop-in replacement. You'll notice a stronger sustain and bloom to the note's attack, and a vocal fundamental lower midrange reminiscent of a smooth PAF tone rather than the usual glassy, bright, and scooped sound of a normal Strat-style single-coil sound. These pickups offer a thicker sound than a typical Strat set but still retain amazing clarity and definition that's like our other blade single-coil pickups in a more convenient shape and size.

Since our dB humbucker's release, we've been asked by customers for a set of blade-style single-coil pickups that fit the aesthetic, sound, and power of the full-sized dB humbucker. You can pair a neck and middle sB for Strat with our dB in the bridge for an SSH set, or act as a three-piece set.

The sB Strat pickups are available as a three-piece set: neck, middle, and bridge position pickups.

Frequently Asked Questions

What values of potentiometers and capacitors do you recommend for Strat pickups?
For our sB pickups, we found that 500k pots work best and offer the most top-end response, which makes them a perfect pairing with a humbucker in the bridge position. That said, there are no hard and fast rules. The most common/traditional choices for Strat-sized pickups are 250k pots (both volume and tone) and .047μF caps—and these are the values we typically still recommend for an even fatter sound from the sB Strat pickups. Do you offer coil tapping for Strat pickups?
We do not offer coil tapping.

Will the blade on the sB pickups work with my guitar's fretboard radius?
Yes, the blade will offer a nice even volume balance between the strings for most fretboard shapes and sizes. The blade is also a great option for guitars with a slightly odd string spacing that doesn't match the pole spacing on original Strat-style pickups.

Will your pickups work in vintage Strats?
Our sB Strat pickups are taller than conventional Strat-sized single coils. Although we have not encountered any issues with our sB Strat pickups fitting traditional Strat sized pickup routes, we advise confirming your current pickup route depth by comparing the route against our dimensional drawing.

Do you make noiseless pickups for Strats?
Our pickups are inspired by vintage builds and voicing. With that in mind, we do not build true noiseless pickups.

Will your pickups give me that "out of phase" Strat sound in positions 2 and 4?
This is a very common misconception; the classic "quack" that you hear in positions 2 and 4 on a Strat is not a result of the pickups being out of phase. All three pickups are in-phase in our builds. The thinner quack sound comes from a drop in output that is a result of two pickups running in parallel as well as from some frequency cancellation (particularly in the low end) that is caused by the pickups being very close together.

Do you offer "matched" or RWRP pickups for Strats?
Our three-pickup Strat sets feature a middle pickup wound RWRP (reverse wind, reverse polarity) relative to the bridge and neck so that they will be hum-cancelling in positions 2 and 4 with proper phase.

How far from my strings should I set my Strat pickups?
We advise customers to start with 1/8" between their pickups and guitar strings with the strings fretted at the last fret. This is just a good starting point, but you can raise your pickups to increase volume, or lower them to decrease volume. Check out Jason Lollar's video on Adjusting Your Pickups.
