Thanks to our Gold Foil’s acoustic transparency, it’s one of the most versatile guitar pickups we offer. If you play softly, the fundamental tones are round and full and come to the forefront. Increase your pick attack and you add more high harmonic overtones. Well suited for a variety of playing styles as well as guitars ranging from "Coodercasters" to jazz boxes. Do I need the optional shim pack?
Our Shim Pack for Surface Mount Gold Foil gives you flexibility to adjust these fixed-height pickups to find the ideal balance for your instrument. Neck angles can vary between guitars, but in most cases bridge pickups are set higher than neck pickups. With our shim pack you can compensate for this difference. Shims can be stacked to achieve a variety of heights.
Does it matter which way I orient the pickup when I install it?
Our Gold Foils use a large oval magnet; they are not directional. The pole piece screws offer very slight individual adjustment, but they are largely cosmetic.
What values of potentiometers and capacitors do you recommend for Gold Foil pickups?
Gold Foils (like other bright single coil pickups) work well with 250k pots (both volume and tone) and .047μF caps—and these are the values we typically recommend. That said, there are no hard and fast rules. You can read more about how different pot and cap values affect tone in this two-part blog post: Part I - Pots, Part II - Caps.
Do you offer a third wire on Gold Foils—like you do on your Tele neck pickups—for series/parallel or in/out of phase switching?
We can do a jacketed two-conductor wire with Gold Foils that will allow you to take advantage of in/out of phase or series/parallel wiring for an upcharge of $10 per pickup.

I installed this pickup in a Strat with an Imperial F-Spaced in the bridge and a SD Lipstick for Strat in the middle (250k pots). The result is just incredible. The Gold Foil has the SOUND I've been looking for half of my life. The notes sing beautifully, the plucking of the strings produce an almost acoustic quality... I'm in love with this pickup. Best thing I've ever bought. Also, I installed time ago a blender, so I can mix the sound of the Gold Foil and the Imperial, and the results are magical, so touch-sensitive and beautiful (both signals full on, but also, specially, with the Imperial and half the Gold Foil). Perfect balance and, aparentily, an almost infinite universe of sounds.

I bought this pickup just for the neck position to try out. I like Strat, Tele, humbuckers, and filtertrons, but this pickup really blew me away. The open top end, the clarity and separation in the low strings, it's really a well balanced and sounds stunning... airy and almost acoustic, but it works as amazing driven as it does clean. And even though it's single coil, it's very low in hum.
It's my "desert island" neck pickup...
